Toni J.B. Liu

I am a second year physics PhD student at Cornell University, advised by Professor Chris Earls. Broadly speaking, I am interested in using machine learning to understand physical systems, and using dynamical system theory to understand how machines learn. Currently, I am researching large language models as part of the SciAI Center.

I received my B.S. in applied physics from Caltech, where I worked with Dr. Eldad Afik and Professor Elliot Meyerowitz on studying the circadian rhythms of marine algae. I received my B.A. in physics and film studies from Wesleyan University, where I worked with Professor Renee Sher on characterizing thermo-optical properties of phase-change materials.
